Project Benefits. Rental Payments Stornoway Wind Farm would pay an annual commercial rent to the Stornoway Trust and also make payments to each of the grazings on which the wind farm would be built.

It will be the eighth time the Western Isles has competed at the biennial multi-sports event, and Hebrideans will be represented in five sports — athletics, badminton, cycling, shooting and swimming. In athletics, one of the stars of the last games — the surprise teenage triple jump gold medallist from Eriskay, Heather MacKinnon — returns to defend her title.

Eve Carrington, who has won several medals in various track and field disciplines, will be competing in her eighth games. Stornoway runner Connor Maclean — who missed out on the last games in Gotland through injury — is a medal hope in the 1, and 5, metres, while team-mate Michael MacMillan is another middle-distance specialist with designs on the podium.

In the swimming pool Kara Hanlon, who first competed in the games as a year-old in the Isle of Wight in , will aim to secure more success having won three golds in Gotland in to add to her maiden triumph in Jersey in This has all been made possible through sportscotland funded schemes, local authority funding both directly and through the Sports Councils , NHS Western Isles, funding organisations, and the generosity of local and national businesses and private donors.

The cost of building and improving facilities, running the clubs and attending mainland competitions is considerable and without this financial support Island sport would not have been able to achieve what it has, so far. There are now six young local athletes in the programme who have been showing potential in their chosen sports: two golfers, three athletes and a swimmer. Jenny and Kara are competing in Bermuda this summer and it is expected that others will feature in future games as the programme develops.
